Manchester United are closing in on the appointment of Paul Mitchell as their new sporting director.

United are said to have earmarked Mitchell as their top candidate and approached him for the first time in March. The search is being led by the INEOS group, backed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is poised to complete a partial takeover at Old Trafford, per journalist Ben Jacobs.

Mitchell is currently working with Ligue 1 club Monaco, and has also had spells with MK Dons, Southampton, Tottenham, and RB Leipzig. It now appears he is poised to move to Old Trafford, provided an agreement can be reached with the principality club.
